Our History
For 25 years Father Michael has been a part of the
American Catholic Communities which is a branch of the
Communion of International Catholic Communities (COICC),
an authentic Old Catholic Community. To be an authentic Catholic community, a group must be able to trace its Apostolic Succession back to the original apostles which we do. That same group must maintain a faithful adherence to the Gospel of Jesus as expressed through Apostolic Traditions. Finally, that group must actively participate in the sacramental ministry of the historic Catholic Church. There have been repeated affirmations by the Roman Catholic Church, by the pope, and other governing bodies of the church to our validity.
HOW DOES THE COMMUNION OF INTERNATIONAL CATHOLIC COMMUNITIES DIFFER FROM A ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH?
~ The Catholics of our communities do not follow the teaching of papal infallibility and, therefore, are independent of the pope's jurisdiction, though we respect the pope greatly.
~ Priests and bishops are permitted to marry.
~ Women are encouraged to be more fully involved in the ministry of the Church as ordained deacons.
~ Divorced people who remarry are reconciled to the church through the grace of God and, therefore, are not excluded from the sacraments. Therefore, a divorced person may remarry with the blessing of the Church.
~ No Christian is excluded from the sacramental ministry. All baptized Christians are invited to participate in the worship and sacraments of the Church.
The Seven Sacraments
The visible reality we see in the Sacraments is their outward sign or expression, the form they take, and the way in which they are administered and received. The invisible reality we cannot "see" is God's grace, his gracious initiative in redeeming us through the death and Resurrection of his Son. His initiative is called grace because it is the free and loving gift by which he offers people a share in his life, and shows us his favor and will for our salvation. Our response to the grace of God's initiative is itself a grace or gift from God by which we can imitate Christ in our daily lives by what we do and by how we act.
The saving words and deeds of Jesus Christ are the foundation of what he would communicate in the Sacraments through the ministers of the Church. Guided by the Holy Spirit, the Church recognizes the existence of Seven Sacraments instituted by the Lord and through the traditions of the early church. They are the Sacraments of Initiation Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, The Sacraments of Healing Penance, and the Anointing of the Sick, Marriage, and Holy Orders. Through the Sacraments, God shares his holiness with us and we are blessed to be one with him and in him as he is our Lord and Savior.
For any sacramental needs such as confession, anointing, counseling, prayer, baptism, funeral, or just someone who will listen,
